o It can be challenging within councils to establish a strategic overview of what systems and apps exist across different service areas. Ensuring service managers or commissioners are considering opportunities to share systems across services which enable cost savings, data interoperability between systems, and cyber security in the design is all essential to the secure digitalisation of local government. o Brent Council have taken the model of a ‘technical design authority’, usually an exclusively technical governance board, and broadened it to include colleagues from IT, digital transformation, cyber security, information governance, procurement and finance. Their authority facilitates conversations and enables a range of different specialisms to ask the right questions at the earliest point in the design of systems and apps, resulting in the best outcomes for the council. o This session will raise awareness of the model, and the principles you can introduce in your council to strengthen the secure digitalisation of local services.
