- Social Value, Sustainability and Green Procurement
Social Value, Sustainability and Green Procurement
Fairness and social value are principles that have been at the forefront of discussions at LGPE for some years now, and it is clear these values will only become more integral to local government procurement in the future.
Sustainable and green procurement seeks to minimise the environmental footprint when buying, using and disposing of products, and this is extended across the supply chain. There are numerous ways local government can be more environmentally conscious, such as sourcing eco-friendly suppliers or consolidating orders to reduce CO2 emissions with fewer deliveries. Small changes can make a huge difference.
The COVID-19 pandemic highlights how procurement that champions these key themes can directly impact the wellbeing of communities, and public authorities across the local government landscape and further afield are acutely aware of the essential role they play in ensuring businesses, jobs and livelihoods are protected. LGPE Online will delve further into how buyers and suppliers alike can place fairness ans sustainability firmly at the heart of procurement.
